It's retarded. Wal-Mart won't lose any substantial sum of money if iTunes carries movies from all the major houses. But they will lose tons if they stop selling DVDs.

I don't think Wal-Mart makes money on a lot of their DVDs. They sell them at a loss to get people in their stores. If people buy on iTunes, they don't come into Wal-Mart.

Currently the Mac App Store has no way of offering an upgrade to existing Mac software. I don't see that changing.

I suspect that all these apps will be stripped of their sample media. They're all quite small without them. Perhaps Apple will sell those files separately on their own on DVDs?

how do we know for sure no new iphone or imac will be released?? i think everyone is counting out the possibilty a little too quickly over some rumors that may not even be true.

3D springboard and maybe limited access api's to enable it in 3rd party apps. iOS5 will also be bringing more OSX features like Lion is getting more iOS features. ;-)

This attitude is crap! The chips suitable for these machine have barely been on the market and you seem to think it justifies throwing that attitude around. It isn't just Intel either as Apple has to implement a new GPU plan and get all of the new OS components working.

It is far better for the user that Apple takes it's time here to do the system right. Further I suspect part of the hold up is the next release of Snow Leopard an update everybody will want. You do want SL to improve in a positive manner don't you?

As an aside I've seen a few posts already from people crying about recently purchased MBPs and the expected soon update. Either get with it or shut up folks. It is not a mystery that a new generation of MBPs are coming. Thus the implication that you really needed those new machines, so these new machines really mean nothing. Otherwise you spent your money on a lark and deserve the frustration you have.

In any event I'm kinda interested in what the Mini might turn into. With the desktops so far ahead of this machine again there is plenty of room for a very significant update. They could turn that optical free model into one hot box with the right chipset.

The "No Fly Zone" consists of far more than we are being told. Air strikes are being taken against Gaddafi's forces and arms (tanks being blown up).

From what I can tell, the world has entered a new phase of warfare. We choose who we want to win in a civil war (reasoning never shared with the public) or conflict of some type, then we use airpower to literally clear the way for that side to march on to power. This way we aren't in "traditional" warfare with troops on the group, but we sure as hell are doing more than just making sure Gaddafi's planes aren't in the air.

This is detached warfare, and I expect it to become the new paradigm. It's just abstract enough that the public won't view it as war costing us soldier's lives, regardless of whether military strikes are actually occurring. This will allow for the USA and/or the likeminded to continue its neverending military intervention around the globe while keeping the public detached enough to go with it, after all, "our troops will not be in harms way".

The next logical step I see in this is the replacement of our pilots with Avenger/Raptor Drones (next-gen version of the finished Predator program). Further abstraction, further detachment from the reality of warfare, this allows for governments to wage war while the public continues being disinterested as always. If "we" aren't getting hurt (aka soldiers dying) then the public rarely cares about what happens to "them" (whatever people we are attacking in a given conflict). Note how the casualties in world affairs are portrayed in American news, there could be 100 deaths as a result of a bombing somewhere, but the first thing to be reported is how many American casualties there were. Same goes for death toll reports in our ongoing wars.

This separation of the public's attention to the actual going ons in relation to warfare is truly scary stuff. We see only what we are allowed to see (war-related) from the mainstream media (see: John Pilger on imbedded journalism). We need future leaders to recognize these trends and stand against them before just accepting this stuff as part of the political machinery.

Thanks for the kind words! I've only been really shooting for a year so I've been trying to get out and shoot as much as possible. I try to post a bunch and get as much criticism as possible to help me improve. It's nice when someone really likes a shot!

Forgot to mention this was the first shoot with my new speedlight. Decided to get one rather than upgrade to a fullframe (few more months :) ). Still loving this little Rebel XS.

I remember when you first started posting on here I wasn't too keen on your shots (if I'm going to be totally honest) but this is such a major improvement, that is such a damn nice shot! Nice work with the new flash, I really need to get one, shows what messing with light can do! did you bounce the flash off anything? what lens did you use? your getting fantastic shots out of that little camera man, I had one for a year before getting my t2i. Olympus Zuiko 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 at f/4, about 50 yards away (it's a fair amount of crop)

I was knee deep in the water- the lens w/ body combo E-5 is weather sealed.Does well even with a 2x teleconverter, which on Olympus makes 400mm = 800mm in 35mm equivalent.. perfect surf setup imo. Here's one wide open with the t/c, original resolution after crop.

A number of recent reports have claimed that September 12th (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060831122800.shtml) will bring an Apple media event with iMac updates.

ThinkSecret now reports (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0609sept12event.html) that Apple's September 12th media event will also introduce a 2nd generation iPod Nano and an updated 5G iPod alongside upgraded iMacs.

According to the rumor site the new iPod nano will feature larger storage capacities as well as multiple colors in a metal finish. Meanwhile, the new full-size iPod will simply sport upgraded capacities at the same price point. ThinkSecret does not expect the long rumored touch-screen video iPod until but does expect the introduction of the iTunes Movie Store at this event.

I wonder if Apple will give it one final update before discontinuing it?

I'm not holding my breath though.
